(I've posted this here on TCS in the past, but rest assured that this is a ground-up remake of that game. It's MUCH better, and as it turns out, I never had a world 3 to begin with, sorry. D:)

GENRE(S):
Fantasy, Action, RPG, Platformer
SUMMARY:
Umbrage - Tale of Lost Souls is an action RPG set in a fantasy midevil era. One day, a traveler stumbles across the castle town of Erno. However, a malevolent force has taken over the kingdom and sent all of its people far away. When Riken learns of this dilemma, he realizes he is the only person who can possibly save Erno from this crises. He sets off on a journey, hoping to bring freedom back to this once-peaceful town.
DETAILS:
This version of Umbrage is a re-make of a previously unfinished game that went by the same name. The differences are:
Potions - Buy, find and drink potions to heal HP and cause all kinds of different effects.
Currency - How can you buy potions without some money? Use either Gold or Points to buy new items for powering up in the field.
Levels - Along with Gold and Points, enemies also give you Experience Points when defeated. Gain enough and you'll grow a level, which in turn grants you a Maximum HP boost!
Shops and Services - As you go along in the story, you will save the many townsfolk of Erno Town. Some of these run some of the local establishments, such as the shop or the local inn. Make use of their services to help you along as you continue the fight against the great Evil!
Better Text - I implemented my best text system into this game; it now has a more comprehensive tutorial, as well as nice-looking text for all occasions.
Ladders - The previous version of Umbrage features elevators (wasn't this supposed to be midevil?). Aside from being out of place, they gave me development trouble, so I was happy to scrap them. The new ladders are MUCH more versatile.
Sound Effects - Although a few are temporary for now, the game includes multiple sound effects that alert you to things you normally might not be sure about, for instance, hitting a boss and doing damage or when the effect of a potion ends.
Minor changes:
Fall Damage - Jump off a ladder from too high and the landing will hurt.
New enemy AI - Slimes have a very specific movement pattern that works the same whether on a platform or on the ground, and Rocks have a new AI altogether that mimics the second boss.
The Wilds - You can visit the wilds to fight never-ending monsters in order to gain Gold, Points and EXP. Once you beat the world a monster originally appeared on, you can fight them in the Wilds! This is the alternative to the old "Free Fight" area in the original version.
Menu System - Use Enter/Return to open a menu in-game where you can use potions and check how much Gold you have.
Small Battle Changes - It's possible to make Riken's magic shoot farther or lesser with the simple edit of a single variable. The player has much more freedom with how he/she can move around the stage. Gold, Points, Experience Points, right down to the amount of damage their attacks do is all stored in a variable that I can edit at any time if anything ever starts to seem unbalanced. Riken now has a MaxHP variable.
Bug Checking - The game is bug and oddity-free, and the text is all typo-free, as far as I know. I tested it extensively and fixed MANY bugs I wouldn't have even known were there. I even had my brother playtest for me, and he found me a good amount of bugs, too. He's good at breaking my games...
SHOPS AND SERVICES:
1. Gold Shop - The first person you save runs the shop in town. You can spend Gold to buy some lower-level potions from him.
2. Inn - The second person you save is a gruff but nice woman who runs the Inn. for the price of 50 Gold, you can rest for a while and restore your HP over time.
3-6. - I know I'm going to have a Point Shop where you can spend Points on higher-tier potions. I may also have a Gold -> Point -> Gold exchange table so you can spend everything you've got on the potions you really need. Only the Point Shop is set in stone, though, so I still have three Shopkeepers/Establishment Owners to think of.
AREAS AND LOCALES:
1. Erno Town - Your main hub of activity. You can get to everywhere else from here. You can get to the World Select list, The Wilds, the Treasure Maze and the Throne Room from here. When you've saved some townsfolk, you can also access all of the different shops and services they offer from here.
2. The Wilds - Head out into the wilderness to fight never-ending monsters. Doing this helps you increase you amount of Gold and Points along with your Level and, therefore, Hit Points.
3. The Treasure Maze - In the Maze, you'll find yourself searching for all kinds of treasures. There are six treasures hidden in the maze, and it is said that only those who have mastered the true power of the Orb of Erno can collect all of them.
4. The Throne Room -
5. World Select Area - From here, you can either return to Erno or enter a world. There are items known as "World Locks" blocking you from entering worlds that would be too tough for you, so you'll have to finish the other worlds, first.
6. Wilds Select Area - From here, you can either return to Erno or enter the wilds and fight monsters of varying degrees.
7. World 1 - A simple world filled with Slimes and only light treasures.
8. World 2 - A tricky world that is full to the brim with treasures and secrets. Rocks inhabit this area, so watch out, or they'll fall right on top of you!
CASUAL TIME:
Hey, all! Well, the first demo of Umbrage - Tale of Lost Souls is finally out! Since this is a ground-up remake of the original Umbrage, I like to call this "Umbrage Remix".
With this release brings two changes for The Fantasy Café, but only one of them affects The Creator's Stage:
1. The Fantasy Café now has a demos forum! It's been up for a while now, but has had nothing to show for it for that time. After I finish up here, I'll be posting up SA3½!
2. I'm starting to include screenshots with my games! It's not that hard to do with Dropbox, so I figured, why not? I'll also be putting up some screenies of Stick RPG 2 on both sites.
I had a ton of fun making this game. It basically takes everything Stick RPG 2 lacks and removes everything Stick RPG 2 has and makes a totally new game. xD Basically, I'm just really happy I was able to get treasure chests to work; it's a lot of fun placing them around the stages and deciding what to put in them. Mind you, you won't be able to collect EVERY SINGLE chest in this demo, since a few of them you can only get with the 3rd and/or 4th abilities, which you can't legitimately get as of yet. If you want to, though, go ahead and edit the variables for them; just set them from "0" to "1", and that'll enable the abilities. Number 4 is my personal favorite, for reasons that will probably be obvious once you try it out.
On that note, another of my favorite things is the Inn! I like how I made the stage for it look, and the rules for it worked out great, too. What I did was recycle the rules for the Potion of Regeneration, only instead of running for only 550 tick (ultimately generating 10 HP), it runs for 1,000,000 ticks, which generates 40,000 HP before it stops. For reference, assuming you never drank any HP Up Potions, you would have to be Level 2,000 to have that much HP. So I think I'm pretty safe. I like the way it's set up because it's one of those "patience is rewarded" things. If you're at a rather high level and you're down to really low HP, you can stay at the Inn and then go make yourself a snack or whatever, and when you get back, WOOT, you're healed!
Let me tell ya, I went crazy trying to make sure this game was as bug-free as possible. I was basically thinking, "Okay, it's ready to go live," before I really tried to mess with it. Now, no matter WHAT you try to do, you shouldn't be able to mess with it. Mainly because the same rules apply as in SRPG2: No opening the menu during speech, no speaking to NPCs when the menu is open, and no going through doors if the menu is open OR when an NPC is speaking. Just making sure of that is about half of the bugs fixed already. xD
Check out THIS POST (Fantasy Café link) for detailed descriptions of potion effects!
Enjoy the demo, and look out for next next one, coming once I finish World Three!
