So I've been thinking lately... Seeing the interest in this place dwindle almost as quickly as it kindled. And then Stagecast themselves having more of an educational approach, teaching kids problem solving skills and the like. While you CAN makes games with the program, it's clearly not geared towards that. That much is obvious just from the fact that you can't save your sims as stand-alone .exe files. Even more so from the lack of a few other key features, like being able to read and play higher-quality audio files and loop them seamlessly without having to use that old variable trick.
If anyone's ever taken a good look around the forum, I think it's clear to anyone that, to me, Stagecast is a tool for making games. And while I'm good at using it and even have a lot of fun games (in my opinion), it's just not quite there. I have a bit of a vendetta against Game Maker only because everyone would always tell me to start using it whenever I told them I used Stagecast. I used to think they were all stuck-up jerks who toted it as better just because the title of the program was "Game Maker", so obviously it would make games better, right? Well, I guess it wasn't titled "Game Maker" for nothing. While I still have trouble understanding the thought process behind the program's interface, it has a few cool features that Stagecast doesn't have. I won't go into that for fear of sounding like I'm advertising for them or something, but know that I still go straight to Stagecast whenever I have a new game idea. So maybe my music doesn't always loop right and I can't make my characters glow in fancy gradients while the game is playing very easily (Haha), but at least Stagecast is simple to use and understand. If I could just get Game Maker's features together with Stagecast's intuitive interface, everything would be incredible. But it's not like that, so my only choice now is to learn Game Maker and get better with that. But making games is just a hobby for me; It's not what I see myself doing a few years from now. Sure, if I go to college it'll be for computer programming, but that's tough enough in itself. If you wanna make games with that stuff, you have to learn a whole new set of code that's specialized for it. I dunno; it's too much work for a hobby.
I tend to make things over-dramatic, but what is your opinion on this? What do you use Stagecast for and how do you view the program? A staring block for children? A learning pathway? Or just a program where you make silly little sims for fun sometimes?
Anyway, I probably won't be around here very much. Not that that's much of a change. xD I'll keep on checking back now and then to see if anyone's come by. Just today I got rid of another spam bot, darn them. Getting my hopes up... Meh. Haha!
So yeah, if you've got something to say, go ahead and say it! start a topic or something; just because you start it doesn't mean you even have to ever load the page in your browser again. Just get a conversation going. I know I'll take part in it eventually when I come around and see it.
So yeah, if anyone wants to take over this place, I'll, like, totally let you. xD I don't see it as a very big deal anymore. We'll totally chill around here. :\
EDIT: So I guess we're on Proboards version 5 now. Looks pretty... sleek? Heheh! I feel like starting a new forum that might actually be popular just to make use of the new features! Who wants another Halo forum?! Anybody?! ...
